Your Christmas donation supports major renovation projects at the Lithuanian World Center.
The 6,000-square-foot roof over the west end of the Lithuanian World Center has exceeded its design life. It needs to be replaced to prevent further water damage to the Blessed Jurgis Matulaitis Mission sacristy and “Pas Prelatą” meeting room, the Lithuanian Foundation administration office, the Lithuanian World Center administration office, and the Kazickas Family conference room. Project cost: $200,000.
The folk art wing of the building, including the Lithuanian Folk Art Institute Gallery, museum reading room, woodcarving gallery, and carpentry workshop is currently at risk of fire due to the absence of sprinklers. Per the State of Illinois, sprinklers need to be installed to ensure the life safety of visitors and to protect our building. Project cost $60,000.
Thanks to your generous donations, the outdoor Hill of Crosses was restored this year. Now, we are ready to upgrade the old wooden steps leading up to the hill with a set of beautiful limestone-colored concrete steps and a decorative granite boulder wall designed by a professional landscape architect. This project will improve the beauty and accessibility of this important religious sanctuary and cultural landmark. Project cost $28,000.
