The annual fund supports major renovation projects at the Lithuanian World Center.
The 30-year-old, 23,000-square-foot roof over the central part of the Lithuanian World Center has exceeded its design life. It needs to be replaced to prevent further water damage to the Banys Family Hall, central hallway, main kitchen, restrooms, church office, and classrooms that are used by hundreds of children to learn Lithuanian language, history, traditions, and more. Project cost: $350,000.
The main gallery, concert hall, ceramics studio, and storage area of the museum are currently at risk of fire due to the absence of sprinklers. Per the State of Illinois, sprinklers need to be installed to ensure the life safety of visitors, especially children who attend art classes, and to protect our building’s foundation. Project cost: $100,000.
The outdoor Hill of Crosses is in decrepit shape and poorly accessible to the elderly due to the lack of proper walking paths. The 60+ crosses are being restored and the hill is in the process of being professionally landscaped to restore the beauty of this cultural and religious landmark and to improve accessibility. Project cost: $40,000.
The 24-year-old stair lift down to the Lithuanian Foundation Hall is broken and cannot be repaired due to discontinued parts. Elderly and others in need of mobility assistance currently have no safe way to reach the hall to attend events, including Lithuanian cultural performances, school plays, and holiday fairs. A new lift is required. Project cost: $30,000.
